OUR PROGRAM
How the Program Works
Our House is a structured, referral-based transitional housing program for young women ages 18–24 in Genesee County.
We provide safe, shared housing with onsite oversight for individuals who are ready for independent living but still benefit from structure, accountability, and a supportive home environment.
Residents maintain active connections with their referring agency, which provides ongoing services and support.
The Three Phases
1️⃣ Stabilize - Months 1-3
When a resident first arrives, the focus is on safety and stability. She settles into the home, connects with her assigned case manager or referring agency, establishes a daily routine, and begins building the foundation for what comes next.
Focus areas: housing safety, daily routine, connection to services, initial life skills assessment
2️⃣ Build - Months 3-18
Once stabilized, residents work toward concrete goals: employment or school enrollment, engagement in life skills development through external services, community resources, and real-world application, financial literacy, and credit building. This is where the real work happens.
Focus areas: employment or education, life skills modules, budgeting, banking, ID and documentation, credit building
3️⃣ Transition - Months 18-24
As residents approach exit, the focus shifts to long-term planning. She finalizes her housing plan, strengthens her support network, and prepares for independent living with the skills and confidence she's built.
Continues coordination with support providers to ensure a stable transition
Focus areas: exit planning, lease readiness, continued credit building, support network, aftercare coordination
Accountability & Structure
Our House is built on clear expectations. Residents follow house rules, maintain daily routines, and work toward personal goals.
Accountability is not punitive — it creates the structure needed for real growth and independence.
While Our House provides the environment and expectations, residents remain connected to external partners who support their progress in areas like employment, education, and life skills.
